The words the figures rely on
A rate means nothing before its words are fixed. These are the words this site uses, defined once, so the same figure reads the same way on every page and in every language.
Points and miles
- PAYBACK point. The unit PAYBACK credits for qualifying spend. Its base redemption value is one cent, checked 2026-09-30 against the programme terms.
- Mile. The unit Miles and More credits. No term fixes what a mile is worth in money; that value comes from a redemption, with assumptions beside it.
Value
- Base redemption value. The price a programme fixes for one unit when redeemed the standard way. For a PAYBACK point it is one cent.
- Effective value. What one unit returns on the route actually used, given the stated assumptions. It is never a fixed term, and it is never quoted without them.
- Cents per mile. An assumed exchange rate between money and miles, used only inside a calculation that names it.
Rates and mechanics
- Base rate. The standing rule by which a purchase earns points, for example one point per two euros.
- Coupon multiplier. The factor an extra-points coupon applies to a purchase. A coupon is a promotion with its own dates, never a permanent rate.
- Transfer ratio. The factor at which points become miles, or miles become points.
- Transfer bonus. A seasonal lift on a transfer ratio, valid inside a stated window.
- Expiry date. The date the terms set for a balance to lapse, stated on the page that uses it.
Behaviour
- Incremental spend. A purchase that would not make sense without the points. The site never counts points as a reason for one.
- Taxes and fees. The money part of an award flight that miles do not cover. No flight is entirely free.
- Award flight. A booking paid in miles, carrying taxes and fees in cash.
How to read a labelled claim
A figures page marks each claim as a programme rule, an observation, a calculation or an interpretation. The methodology page explains the ladder behind those labels.
